Throughout our lives we have our highs and our lows. When it’s good we go about our lives and never give a thought to preparing for what might go wrong. And we shouldn’t! I’m a firm believer that you shouldn’t “borrow trouble.”
If you’re a believer in the Law of Attraction then you know that what you focus on is what you experience. I absolutely believe that is true… but not always. Sure if you always think the sky is falling then you’re going to have to deal with more and more things going wrong. Why? Because you believe they will.
There are however losses that are not your doing. I for one didn’t cause my husband’s death with my thoughts. We’re not responsible for the drunk drivers, the person who steals your stuff or your spouse. You may have invested in the market but you’re not responsible for the unscrupulous financial adviser.
Whatever loss you are dealing with changes you. When I first started Simple Steps I use to say that I’d lost everything in my life except my marriage. Then 3 months ago my husband, Jack, died. While you can’t compare losing a job to someone dying, depending on where you are in your life, the loss may be the worst thing you’ve had to deal with. So, from your perspective, the pain is unfathomable and yet it is what you are living through.
Loss is loss and grieving is a very personal process. Sharing my journey these past few years and especially now is my solace. Beyond helping myself to heal I’ve realized that in sharing I help others to realize they are not alone in whatever they are going through.
As you are dealing with your loss I hope you find comfort and inspiration this new feature for Simple Steps, Living Through Loss. New posts will be added weekly. For now click on the topics in the sidebar to read more.
